The Pacific Northwest Salmon Center is located in the Puget Sound lowlands, located on the Hood Canal and Union River between the Cascade and Olympic mountains.

The Salmon Center resides in the small community of Belfair, Washington.  Belfair serves as a primary gateway to Hood Canal and the Olympic Mountains for those traveling from the east.

Belfair is located on State Highway 3 between the cities of Bremerton to the northeast and Shelton to the southwest.

Driving Directions from Bremerton

Washington State Highway 3 connects the naval shipbuilding port of Bremerton with Belfair. Southbound Highway 3 from Bremerton runs along the western shoreline of Sinclair Inlet.  At the terminus of Sinclair Inlet is the town of Gorst and the junction of Highway 3 and Highway 16.  At Gorst continue to the south on Highway 3 for approximately 8 miles to Belfair.

In Belfair, continue on Highway 3 through the first lighted intersection at Old Clifton Road, past Safeway, Rite Aid and Starbucks.  Approximately one mile beyond the intersection, turn right onto Roessel Road.  Follow Roessel Road as it bears to the right prior to entering the Pacific Northwest Salmon Center facility.  Continue through the gate until you reach the first office building on the right.  Currently, the entrance gate is open from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Driving Directions from Tacoma

Travel west on Highway 16, crossing the Tacoma Narrows bridge, and remain on the highway through Gig Harbor and Port Orchard.  In Gorst, take the left exit for Highway 3 South to Belfair and Shelton.  Continue south on Highway 3 for approximately 8 miles to Belfair.

Driving Directions from Shelton (and Olympia)

From the south, Washington State Highway 3 connects Shelton with Belfair.  Highway 3 northbound from Shelton travels through a forested region of Mason County and skirts the waters of Oakland Bay and Case Islet on its path to the Pacific Northwest Salmon Center.

The welcome sign to Belfair is located at the lighted intersection of Highway 106 and Highway 3. Approximately 1/2 mile past this intersection, turn left onto Roessel Road.  Follow Roessel Road as it bears to the right prior to entering the Pacific Northwest Salmon Center facility.  Continue through the gate until you reach the first office building on the right.  Currently, the entrance gate is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Highway 101 North connects Olympia with Shelton.  The driving journey from Olympia to Shelton will travel over the waterways of Eld Inlet and Totten Inlet, both estuary complexes of Puget Sound.  On your approach to Shelton, follow the directional signage onto Highway 3 to Belfair.

In Belfair, continue on Highway 3 to Roessel Road.  Turn left on Roessel Road.  Follow Roessel Road as it bears to the right prior to entering the Pacific Northwest Salmon Center facility.  Continue through the gate until you reach the first office building on the right.  Currently, the entrance gate is open from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Driving Directions from Seattle

Seattle lies on the eastern shore of the main Puget Sound basin.  There are two viable routes to our headquarters from Seattle.  One route incorporates a ferry rides across Puget Sound which on clear days offer views of Mount Rainier, the Olympics, and the Cascades.

By Bremerton Ferry

From downtown Seattle, take the Bremerton ferry from Pier 52.  Once in Bremerton follow Highway 3 to Belfair.  The ferry ride is approximately one hour long, and the continued drive to Belfair is approximately 30 minutes.

By Interstate 5

Drive south on Interstate 5 from Seattle to Tacoma.  In Tacoma, exit to the right from Interstate 5 onto Highway 16 West toward Gig Harbor and Bremerton.  Highway 16 from Tacoma will take you across a high suspension bridge over a narrow portion of southern Puget Sound and onto the greater Kitsap Peninsula.  The drive from Seattle and across the Tacoma Narrows Bridge to Belfair is approximately 80 minutes.
