Since the 15th of August, our salmon trap on the Union River in Belfair has been in full swing. Though we had a slow start, they’re starting to roll in! Below is a video from this morning that features a few beautiful summer chum.
This is part of the Summer Chum Conservation Initiative, which you can learn more about here. Volunteers monitor the trap 24/7 from August 15 to October 15 each year, collecting data on returning fish and also assisting HCSEG staff with spawning. Volunteers are still needed, so if you’re interested in getting involved, contact Seth at 360-275-3575 extension 12, or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
