The Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group (HCSEG), in partnership with the U.S. EPA, is accepting proposals for projects that support local K-12 West Sound/Hood Canal educators. These funds can be used for professional development, field equipment, or supplies, but must support environmental education efforts.

Projects MUST be completed by September 30, 2019.

Types of Projects

Any projects/programs that lead to increased field-based environmental education opportunities for youth are eligible. This may include projects that take place directly outside, such as data gathering, monitoring, gardening/greenhouses development, field trips, etc., or projects that will lead to increased outdoor learning for students. Professional development and other trainings necessary for field-based learning opportunities are also eligible. The following guidelines should help you in developing a competitive proposal:

Eligible entities are limited to school districts and non-profit organizations that are implementing environmental education projects or programs within the West Sound/Hood Canal area.

Requests for the current funding cycle are limited to $2,500.

Applicants need to demonstrate at least one partnership, and are encouraged to involve multiple partners, including HCSEG where applicable. We also encourage partnerships within schools, teachers who may have similar projects to collaborate with each other on one application.

Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals that will reach a significant number of students beyond one year. These proposals will score higher in review.

Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals that include an evaluation component to demonstrate the impact of the implemented project. These proposals will score higher in a review.  If awarded funding, you will need to submit to HCSEG tow project reports; a brief progress project report and a final project report.  The project reports will outline the project successes and outcomes with photos for HCSEG and/or EPA use.
